In 2007 I flew to Hong Kong and spent two months working with a brilliant phographer Vincent Assante De Cupillo to document a journey around the Pearl River Delta, including stop-overs in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Macao, returning to Hong Kong, and then travelling to Shanghai for more art work.. At the time, and maybe still, the Pearl River Delta was the Future and I wanted to record my place in it. Some of these pictures record Live Art performances, and all of them are photo-collaborations with Vincent. In this slide-show there is one image for each of the actions I carried out during those two months - I hardly had a day off but it was the time of my life. HelsinkiPerformance, Visual and Live Art Works/International/Archived In 2004 I came back from my second trip round the world to find that I had been accepted for a Fellowship in Live Art in residence at the Cable Factory in Helsinki, Finland. I had always wanted to visit Finland and I was delighted to take up this opportunity. During two months, as winter and snow crept over the city, I worked on many projects with special dedication. That’s what residencies are for, after all, - no distractions. This was when I first got into photo-collaborations, and the best of them, with Tanya Kopponen, are still some of my signature images. In fact my first public live art intervention was at the Tate’s “Shopping” show in 2003. That rather caught them by surprise and I kept on inserting myself into their opening nights until they invited me to actually join in as part of the Live Art show “Art, Lies and Videotape”. And then I got to present a public response to the huge video installation “Assume Vivid Astro Focus”. Later I got to run a Gender Workshop in connection with the Niki De Saint Phalle exhibition, and even get all of the Young Tate together for a Halloween “Dress-up-and-photo-session” Party. On one visit in August 2008 I offered a number of works, including a live improvisation with my long-time musical associate Alexander DeCoupigny, and yet another outing for my repertory piece, The Torn Dress (pictured). My most famous street “persona” was in 2008 as Liverpool’s Queen Of Culture. She had appeared in 2007 and visited the city of Shanghai (Liverpool’s twin cultural city) that year and then permeated the city’s events throughout 2008. The Queen featured in an art-work curated by Alan Dunn and commemorated in a book “The Great Make-over” - in it she visited the new property development Liverpool One. Other street actions have taken me to the Ramblas in Barcelona, the Gardens of Copenhagen, the streets of Manchester and the Red Light District of Amsterdam. I am a good writer and am happy to see myself in print. Many invitations have been to write for online publications. It was one of the results of my Round The World trip in 2001, another of which was a travelogue “Dragging Around The World”. One artistic outcome of my work in the Pearl River Delta in 2007 was a book documenting and interpreting my experiences “Kou”.(picture above) All three texts await a publisher. I have premiered many of my best works there, - “Stevenage” and “Scandinavia Has Been Good To Me”, also “The Mandayana” - and at the start of my Live Art career in 2003 I was given the chance to be one of three Associate Artists working in and around the building. I was able to try out many good (and some not-so-good) ideas and learn my craft as a performing artist. During the period when the Bluecoat was closed for refurbishment and redevelopment I joined them in various shop locations called “Out Of The Bluecoat” where I carried out a whole range of Live Art actions, many of which still live in memory (and thankfully photographs).&nbsp; I was also honoured to be invited, as Queen Of Culture” to join the artists “re-opening” the building in 2008 after its major refurbishment. On that day I met the man who is now Metropolitan Mayor of Manchester.
